Sat 16th May
Got special permission to have my phone in the bootcage at Go. Should have waited to take my break a bit longer. The first half was dull and City were rubbish. Second half was a flurry of texts from Pops and me stopping just short of putting my shirt back on and running round the store singing On the Ball City!
Yep... Norwich are going to Wembley!!!
Was trying not to be gutted that I was not there with Pops and Jon. Was also trying to not be gutted that I was not on the CMA breakfast run with Gill and the guys. Then she sent me this...
Seems like they had a lunch run too... and spent most of the day riding around the peaks. Sigh. Must. Get. New. Job.
Anyways. Babysitting. Jacob is my hero. He wanted to stay up 'infinity cubed' hours. Thats a long time for a five year old.
Toby however, kept calling me fat, then in the bedtime story said "this is you"
Car Boot with Josh in the morning. Sunny and warm which got me hopeful. Silly me.
Then back in time to get to Prestwold for the Pretty Muddy Race for Life. All raring to go. Until we realised it was freezing. And saw the queue for the loos.
Becky's plan was to start off fast to the first obstacle so we wouldn't get squirted with water while queuing (we were v cold at this point). We didn't get wet. But Becky almost didn't make it over the last big pink inflatable sausage thing. most amusing. Settled into an easy pace. Although not easy if you have been out drinking at the Hunt Ball until 1:30 the night before. Becky did extremely well to not puke, never mind keep running.
Stupid obstacle second that just required you to hurdle into a pool of yucky water. Not so much pretty muddy as 'now you have to do the whole 5k with soaked through trainers. Squelch. Commando crawl under nets next.. which Rach is strangely fantastic at. Must get lessons. A few tunnels and cargo nets and we still weren't particularly muddy. We were, however, miles in front of the rest of the 11:30 lot, and overtaking many of the earlier runners. Sorry, not runners. Stroll and chat-ers.
Success at the 'have a laugh and get as muddy as possible' objective was achieved at the penultimate obstacle. Huge paddling pool full of mud. Others were crawling on hands and knees under the rope and getting off fairly lightly. We all dived straight in. I rolled over and made a mud angel. Should maybe have closed my mouth first! Completed the rest of the race half blind ...
So not only did we 'win' the Race for Life I think we also won muddiest team. Despite being frozen shortly after finishing it was totally worth it... for the look of horror on so many girl's faces when we strolled past (ok, went to taunt) them waiting for their start. Hehe.
Cleaning up in the car park was not happening. I just about managed to get enough mud off my hands to be able to hold the wheel. We gave up on the rest and just chucked our 'clean' clothes on over the top. And I had the only sealed poncho and had to break in through the hood.
Made it home despite hands going white and tingly. Laughed a lot when another cyclist did the longest ever double take on Rach as she biked home! Tried not to leave a trail of mud up the stairs then got in the bath fully clothed. Tried to have a shower but gave up in the end and just watched the MotoGP on the iPad sat in a muddy pool. Shower, three baths and another shower later I finally got rid of this lot..
Well, at least it covers the grey..
Knew it was hurty. Some obstacles were a bit gravelly too..
Very pleased to find that I didn't have to do the night shift at Go tonight. Had a nap during Legends of the Fall, and have cleaned and tidied. Place still a tip but Bumble's looking better.
Fab day though. Thank you so much to the Soppy Gits for saying yes. And to everyone who sponsored.
Oh, and doesn't Jesse look like JJ now..
