Sci Fi Weekend at the Great Central Railway

Managed to persuade Bex and Josh to come too so I wasn't such a lonely geek.. so kicked off at Quorn Station at around half ten, timed nicely for all the Doctors together...

Established that Josh is scared of nothing, and I am a wimp, and that you never stop being a PE teacher.. I started to do the Mummy's shoelaces up for him...

Once several doctors had managed to get a sonic screwdriver working..

we were off on my first ever GCR train ride back home to Loughborough. Can't believe I've lived next to it for 5 years and not been on, was always hoping for a special occasion, and company..

Always stay in character?!

I clearly need to watch more Who, don't remember Ming the Merciless in there..

I declined to be in the Loughborough Echo.. may regret that..

His accent was brilliant.. 12th Doc not Josh...

Best bit..

Waved our train goodbye from Loughborough Station, so stuck there for an hour. Had a spot of lunch.. can't even have a bacon butty undisturbed by those pesky cybermen..

Ended up with even more stuff from the Star Wars clutter guy. Oops.

Eventually escaped to Rothley station for the funfair (that would be more accurately described as pathetic, not the 'family friendly' it was billed as).

Swithland Reservoir..

So, when I have a big house (with a garage for my Harley) I can do this in Lego in the loft..

My train will go round Randomville.. the Falcon in Mos Eisley spaceport, and the odd Tardis or minion dotted around..

Nice geek selfie as we abandoned Bex at Rothley Station and we headed off to Leicester.

More familiar, although I can't remember going on trains much as a kid..

Went to the Greenacres cafe to do the Who trail. Easiest Haribo I've ever earned. Then we deployed a Munzee at the station before watching the engine re couple at the front of the train, but facing backwards!

Got attacked on the way back to Quorn by an Ood..

Who's having a debrief.. No 11 refused to get changed in the phone box superman style

Really should bring Nan Fox here..

Having introduced Josh to Munzee-ing we then had to go find some, which was good as there is this lovely view at the top of the Quorn steps..

Then back for babysitting, and a cheeky cyberman nicking my phone..

Sunday: attempted to be early to the car boot, but didn't really work, didn't matter as Josh enjoyed it. Finally found Da Vinci Code so fell asleep to that after dinner. 51 was best score at Merlin, now blogging, Ferrari when this darn video has uploaded.

Less than 100 pages to go.. seems I may struggle to finish the Ferrari by Christmas, never mind get Artoo done. Ah well..

Park Run and Bike Run

First 'normal' weekend of the new school year.. I can see a routine easily developing, but hopefully I'll find different things to do at least some weekends. Whatever happens it's nice to have two days off and the freedom to choose. I will need to get better at choosing admin/housework though, or ideally better at doing that midweek.

Firstly got rid of my mattress Friday night, quite sad leaving it at the dump. Slept on it for about thirty years, aside from a couple of years when it was a bouldering wall crash mat!

Bit weird on the new one.. is higher, and not lumpy. But comfy for my weird sleeping styles of face down flat out, or curly ball.

So, I totally got a Ferarri for my birthday...

.. and a cat wearing a sweater, cause, you know, it wouldn't be a birthday without that.

Mum is just brilliant. The day after my birthday there is a parcel waiting for me...

Lots of bits...

First time recording on the iMac. Worked beautifully.. didn't get charged again for the app, and there is only a small time lag.

Quality time with Gladis

Up early for a fast run (5k in 20 mins 0.5 incline) then watched Lego documentary during breakfast. Then opened parcel from Ma. Card from Nan L made me cry. Card from Ma and Pa was fab... she does try Bless her!

Also got a replacement Bumblebee spinner for the flag pole, and a 'found it in a cupboard' Canaries shirt. And Chalkie and Nan F were very very naughty.

Very late birthday tea.. still yummy, but didn't even make it to the end of Muppets Most Wanted. Tired bunny... with a 7am shift the next day.

Saved my card from Gill till bedtime, as I was only allowed to keep it for 24 hours once opened.  She is a total fruit cake.

But the present did scare me slightly...

The ensuing messages conversation probably did not make much sense, as I was asleep when it started.

As speedy as Babs?

So. Yesterday's trip to Freshwater took it's toll. Colours started to change as the evening wore on. By Tuesday morning my legs were redder than it looks here and had inflated. Others fared worse..

No surf again, so off to Pendine Sands, sight of many famous world records on bikes and cars. Lovely little Museum of Speed there, housing a Brough Superior and several other bikes..

The Sands..

Couldn't resist..

Start position for the world land speed record for running with inflated legs..

Obviously flying along way faster than it looks here..

Had to screech to a halt as the MoD were live firing..

Nice mooch around the town after sampling Welsh Cakes and Bara Brith in the cafe. First bit of gift shopping and postcard sending. Then off to check out flat Tenby. Left the others to drag Nan down to the beach while I went munzee and cache hunting. Had to phone them as couldn't find them, and I can't do the Pops whistle.

Lovely meal in a pub in Lamprey. They did let themselves down slightly with the quality of the sweet  menu..
