This may well be my new favourite 'brick'..
Looks kinda like a friendly froggy face to me. Anyways. Was supposed to be Castle Howard today on Colin's recommendation. However it is stupidly expensive, and when even Mum didn't really want to go there she made a brilliant call, and we went on the North York Moors Railway instead. Superb decision Ma. Abandoned the car in the Goathland station car park and ran off to get pics when I heard a whistle ..
Once that had chuffed away we went back to the car and got sorted out, and turned our attention to caches and timetables and tickets..
Looking like a complete idiot the entire time is actually a skill I have worked hard at..
Or is it genetic? ..
I suspect Chalkie has a Werthers on the go..
View of the bridge..
View from the bridge..
Nice pose..
Imitating a photo of Nan and Grandad Fox..
This was after the gift shop. My worst one yet.. although with the amount of Harry Potter and steam train stuff there it could have been a LOT worse. Thanks to Uncle Chalkie for getting my Hogwarts Express board and tea towel.
Ma remembers us coming down those steps last time we visited Goathland, with MFA and family.
Our train coming in.. only when it had gone past did I realise how close my head had been to it. Oops.
Our loco. Seems to go in reverse most of the time.
Through lots of damp green countryside...
.. to arrive at Whitby Station..
First stop (after consulting Tourist Information as to its location) was tinner (or whatever you call a meal that replaces both dinner and tea at gone 2pm) at Magpies. Me and Ma put on our parts when Pops didn't want to queue (outside mind you, not inside, like the poor American that got told off) and it was well worth the very short wait.. best fish and chips (or massive battered sausages) I have ever had..
Chalkie says 'Magpies Rocks!!'
Luckily he got this one and not the one I was pretending to moon..
Winner of Most Expensive Tea Towel yet btw. Anyways.. predictably there was some caching to be done.. they follow me anywhere!
Very pleased to get some Dracula related exploring in..
You can see what he meant.. spooky enough on a miserable afternoon, never mind a foggy moonlit night..
Next up to the whale jaw bones..
And the James Cook statue..
Look warm and happy!
More crap selfies..
Made it back down to the harbour and there we split. Ma and Chalkie went jet shopping and Pops followed me to get out of shopping. He should know by now thats a bad idea, lurking around deserted docks..
Unbeknown to him, climbing 199 steps..
To get to creepy vampire infested graveyards..
for foggy views..
and a creepy ruined abbey that we refused to pay English Heritage 8 quid each to get into for 5 mins (under strict instructions from Ma not to be late.. last train home!)
I need to remember that Chalkie has a very good zoom, and that other people don't know that and I just look crazy..
Made it back to the station early, which is unusual for us and also disappointing as the cafe had just shut..
Apparently this is my trainspotter face.. responding to brother taking the mick on FB..
The journey back from Whitby to Goathland.. quit now if you're bored of train pics..
This is the point where our loco chuffed off without us!! (Grosmont to Goathland by diesel sadly)
Right, that was the last train photo. Promise. Flashback to Aidensfield instead of Hogsmeade.. Harry to Heartbeat..
Chalkie said "this is the droid Police are looking for!"
Best meal of the week that evening.. or so says the chef.. I cooked pancakes and they were scrummy, and who knew that petrol stations sold Jif lemon!
